Joseph-Bonaventure Tillière's Six Sonates (1770) were his first published sonatas - he wrote over 20, as well as a concerto. Tillière was well known for his Méthode (c1774?) which was frequently reprinted well into the 19th century. These sonatas are technically advanced with much string crossing in high positions and extensive use of the thumb. In the last movement of sonata no. 1 the player is instructed to play the lowest notes in an arpeggio passage with the chin!
